My absolute favorite hymn is The Love of God. I can remember going over to my grandparents house when I was little and my family singing this song together.
I can still hear my grandma and grandpa' s voice when I think about the melody. I can see my grandpa's face full of joy and passion singing beside grandma as the tears rolled down her cheeks. This is the sentiment I share with them when I sing the third verse.
Grandma now has Alzheimer's but I choose to remember her as she was, singing this third verse in praise to Jesus.
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.
–Frederick M. Lehman, 1917

that, too, is my favorite hymn/verse. i just love it. and this post. and i love you.
Of course you know I sat and bawled when I read this. I’m incredibly proud of the woman of God you’ve become…..your spiritual insights are Holy Spirit-breathed. The thing that struck me the most as I read this post (and as I have contemplated it and wept over it this morning) is how grateful I am that He still chooses to use imperfect people (and families) to spread the “Love of God”. Why am I surprised?…..the Bible is full of them and still his Word goes on! I am so thankful that…”He remembers we are but dust”. As you and your family walk out Jesus in your world, it is just more confirmation that “His Word will not return to him void”.
Love ya…Papa
