My favorite thrill ride is Splash Mountain in Disneyland. I thoroughly enjoy bouncing and singing along to Zippity Doo Dah. After that feel-good experience the buzzards follow. They are the large black birds speaking of gloom and doom as you make your way slowly up the hill. Then comes the moment I've been waiting for or fearfully anticipating…SPLASH MOUNTAIN!
This week was very much a roller coaster ride for me. It started out in the pits with the buzzards in my head saying, "you're never gonna make it!" I think the voice sounded alot like the naysayer of a cartoon I watched as a kid (does anyone out there remember this one?)
Marissa was not feeling well (not sick enough to stay home) and struggling with a phobia that I had wrestled with as a kid. Not only was she anxious but my gift of empathy allowed me to feel the pain with her…oh for joy!
As deep as I was in the pits, is as high as I was a few days later. We received a huge bonus when we exchanged our couch (wearing out and still under warranty) for a new one. Somehow we recieved $400 back on the deal. With my business being slow this was honestly an answer to prayer!
I was on top of the world and praising Jesus and looking forward to a much needed moms day out. I had made a hair appointment when Saturday morning I received a call from Kahala who said she wouldn't be able to cut my hair because of a spider bite on her eye (likely excuse). I comforted myself with the thought that I could at least buy a box of color to hide the gray, even if the style was a bit limp.
I found myself back on top of the mountain when I received a call from my good friend Karin who said she had been thinking about me this week. She comforted me with her survival stories of trials past and present. She gave me such courage to face this coming weeks roller coaster ride.
I have never gone on a roller coaster by myself. They are way more fun when you are with a friend! Thanks Karin for sharing in my ride this week or at least reliving it with me…this time full of hope.
